The Wall Street Journal and The Heritage Foundation, Washington's preeminent think tank, on Jan. 12 dropped Ukraine in their annual index of of economic freedom. Their 2011 Index of Economic Freedom ranks Ukraine 164 out of 179 countries, between Uzbekistan (163) and Chad (165). Ukraine's score is 0.6 point lower than last year, primarily because of declines in government spending and freedom from corruption. Ukraine is ranked last out of 43 countries in the Europe region, and its overall score is lower than the world average. Read the report here.
