You're reading: Gazprom confirms Naftogaz’s payment of first tranche for its gas debt

Kyiv, December 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Gazprom has confirmed that Naftogaz Ukrainy has transferred the first tranche in payment of its gas debt.

This was reported by the Echo of Moscow radio, Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov said on the Russian First Channel.

“We see this money and are ready to resume the talks on December 2 to settle the issue of further gas supplies,” he said.

At the same time, Kupriyanov said that to start concluding direct contracts for gas supplies for next year Ukraine needs to pay off all its debt.

Gazprom and Naftogaz Ukrainy reached an agreement this week under which the Ukrainian company is to pay $380-million arrears by December 1 inclusive. The sum would cover the cost of gas supplied in September and part of October.
