With the first phase of the Globus shopping mall under Maidan Nezalezhnosti completed, the mall’s developer has set its sights on the project’s second phase, across Khreshchatyk.
Delight, which bankrolled the mall, has started working with the project’s leasing agent to develop the second phase, dubbed Globus II.
Globus II consists of one underground level beneath the Glory to Ukraine statue on Independence Square and three aboveground levels in a semicircular building behind the statue, with a combined 9,230 square meters, of which 4,400 square meters will be available for retail space.
Delight plans to open the underground level next month, with the remainder slated for opening in October. Colliers International, a real estate brokerage, developed the concept for both stages of the mall and is the leasing agent.
Eduard Onufriyenko, Colliers’ marketing manager, said that leases have been signed reserving space in the second phase, but declined to name the firms.
As with the first phase, the shops occupying Globus II are aimed at affluent shoppers.
“The mall’s concept calls for a fashion center, with name‑brand clothing, shoes and accessories,” Onufriyenko said. Plans are for the 6,800‑square meter underground level to include an Internet cafe, clothing stores and a food court with 7 vendors. The first and second aboveground levels, with 1,158 and 1,700 square meters respectively, will feature souvenirs and gifts, jewelry, watches, tableware and cosmetics, as well as apparel and shoe stores.
Onufriyenko said that options for the third level could include more retail space for stores selling high‑end consumer electronics and antiques, or could include restaurants, bars, a casino and a nightclub.
Colliers is studying the market and negotiating with potential tenants to determine which option will be more attractive. The brokerage plans to decide on one of the options by the end of summer, Onufriyenko said.
