You're reading: Inflation in Ukraine highest since March

Ukraine's inflation rate jumped to 10.5 percent in September in comparison with the same period of 2009, state statistics committee said Thursday in a statement.

The figure was highest since March, as a summer drought boosted food prices, the data showed.

Inflation amounted to 7.4 percent since January, according to statistics. The consumer prices grew by 2.9 percent in September, according to statistics committee.

Ukraine faces the risk of faster inflation, Deputy Economy Minister Anatoliy Maksyuta said Wednesday.

"The government is used to using administrative and regulatory tools to combat inflation," he said.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Economy Ministry said inflation will reach 12 percent this year.

Ukraine’s government forecast inflation by 13.1 percent in 2010 and 8.9 percent in 2011.

Ukraine saw inflation of 12.3 percent in 2009.
