Demand high for both laptop and desktop computers.
Imports of computers grew by 6.5 percent year-on-year in 2011, surging above levels seen before the 2009 global recession as consumers took advantage of an increase in retail lending by banks to buy more devices, according to domestic consulting firm IDC.
A total of 1.63 million of mobile (laptop) and 919,000 desktop computers were imported in 2011. IDC also noted an increase in corporate and private demand, with the biggest sales growth in retail, thanks to consumer loan programs.
“In the third quarter of 2011, there was another ‘boom’ in Ukraine’s in consumer lending, during which the share of computer sales using loans reached 80 percent within some retailers,” said Volodymyr Vasylyk, an analyst at IDC.
