KYIV, July 18 – The National Bank of Ukraine plans to launch an internet-based business that will sale goods and services in its large-scale project for a nationwide electronic mass payment system, Borys Diachenko, head of the NBU's mass electronic payment department, told Ukrainian News on July 17.
According to him, the first stage of the project involves nationwide internet payment cards that will be used for automatic payments for internet service providers.
After the introduction of the card system, mechanisms for payment for goods on the internet and municipal payments will be created in the second and third stages, respectively.
"The decision is ready, although we have not yet completed the testing [of the Internet shop]," Diachenko said.
According to him, several internet service providers, web design studios, and internet shop owners have shown interest in this project.
The pilot project of issuing the plastic cards for the nationwide electronic mass payment system was started in June this year. The system is presently undergoing testing in Kreditprombank in Kyiv and Mega Bank and Grant Bank, both in Kharkiv.
