The National Bank of Ukraine believes that the hryvna’s devaluation will not exceed 10 percent this year if conditions are favorable, NBU Deputy Chairman Yaroslav Soltis said at a press conference on July 20.
In this case, the hryvna’s exchange rate will reach 5.7400 Hr/$ by the end of this year.
He noted that the hryvna has devalued by 4.3 percent since the start of this year and that the National Bank of Ukraine continues active dollar purchases on the interbank currency market.
Meanwhile, Soltis said that the National Bank of Ukraine saw no factors that could worsen the situation on the market.
“We presently see no such factors,” Soltis said.
Representatives of commercial banks expect the dollar to rise against the hryvna during the second half of this year, and they believe that the exchange rate will be between 6.000 Hr/$ and 6.5000 Hr/$ by the end of the year.
The hryvna fell by 51.9 percent in 1999.
