Ukraine has exported 5.9 million tonnes of grain since the beginning of this marketing year (MY, July 2010 – June 2011) as of Dec. 22, representative of the Ukrainian Agriculture Ministry Oleksandr Demydov told reporters in Kyiv on Thursday.
According to him, Ukraine exported 2.4 million tonnes of wheat, 2.3 million tonnes of barley and 1.067 million tonnes of corn.
Demydov also noted that the country exported some 0.9 million tonnes of grain over the first 20 days of December.
He added that the government will return to the issue of the grain export quotas in January next year.
As reported, Ukraine from Oct. 19 until Dec. 31, 2010 imposed quotas on the export of 2.7 million tonnes of grain, including 500,000 tonnes of wheat, 200,000 tonnes of barley, two million tonnes of corn, and 1,000 tonnes of each of rye and buckwheat.
Prysiazhniuk said in early December that Cabinet of Ministers had prolonged quotas on grain exports to March 31, 2011 and increased them by 1.5 million tonnes, however, a respective government document has not yet been published.
According to preliminary data, in 2010 Ukraine harvested 41.5 million tonnes of grain (bunker weight).
