MINSK - Belarus had a trade deficit of $390 million in 2014, down 83.4 percent from $2.341 billion in 2013, the National Bank said.
The country had a trade deficit of $868.6 million in December, its highest monthly deficit of the year. There were also deficits in April, July and September to December, including just $7.8 million in September.
In the year, Belarus had a merchandise trade deficit of $2.598 billion, compared with a deficit of $4.593 billion in 2013; and a deficit of $2.208 billion in services trade, down 2 percent from 2013.
Overall foreign trade turnover fell 3.2 percent in 2014 to $87.5 billion, including $74.07 billion in merchandise trade, down 4.5 percent, and $13.43 billion in services, up 5.3 percent.
Overall exports fell 1.1 percent to $43.56 billion, including $35.73 billion for merchandise (down 2.2 percent) and $7.82 billion for services (up 4.2 percent).
Imports dropped 5.3 percent to $43.95 billion, including $38.33 billion for merchandise (down 5.3 percent) and $5.6 billion for services (up 6.8 percent).
