Ships of Russia's Black Sea Fleet are participating in tactical exercises, which include a simulated amphibious assault and anti-submarine and air defense operations, a Black Sea Fleet spokesman told Interfax-AVN on Saturday.

"The ship crews are tackling amphibious assault tasks and the tasks of anti-submarine and air defense. They are conducting maneuvers amid an imaginary naval battle as well. The maneuvers also include missile-firing and artillery exercises," the spokesman said.

The highlight of the exercises, which are taking place under the supervision of Novorossiisk Naval Base Commander Rear Admiral Anatoly Lipinsky, will be a simulated beach-based amphibious assault, he said.
