ROSOTV-ON-DON - An explosion went off on Nov. 11 near the Russian-flagged dry cargo ship Nakhodka, as it was sailing in the Sea of Azov, a spokesman for the region's emergency services informed Interfax.
“According to immediate reports, the blast went off at about noon near the right-side of the dry cargo vessel as it was sailing within the neutral waters in the Sea of Azov. The ship was reportedly not damaged and continued its journey,” the spokesman said.
The crew remains in contact with the Russian coastguard and is to enter the Russian sector of the Sea of Azov within hours, the source said.
It was reported earlier that a powerful explosion went off in the Sea of Azov near Mariupol (Ukraine’s Donetsk region) at about noon on Nov. 11.
The sound of the explosion came from the sea and was heard by residents of the Prymorsky and Zhovtnevy districts of the city. “The shockwave rattled the windows,” the city website 0629 reported.
Spokesman for the anti-terrorist operation Dmytro Horbunov told 0629 that the blast had gone off in the sea beyond the 20-mile zone.
