Vladimir, Russia - Siemens plans to set up production of railcars in the Vladimir Region, Deputy Governor Gennady Amelin said at a press conference on Tuesday.

Commenting on the results of a regional delegation’s visit to the Expo Real international investment forum in Munich, Amelin said: “We held negotiations at the headquarters of German company Siemens, which plans to launch production of cars for electric trains in our region.”

He said German company Agropolis also showed interest in working with Vladimir Region and is prepared to build a multipurpose agribusiness complex in the region.

A number of investors also took an interest in the project to build the Dobrynskoye airport outside Vladimir, which is expected to receive 2.4 billion rubles in federal government funding.

“This is an ambitious project under which there are plans to organize international passenger services with the help of so-called low-cost airlines. There will be logistics centers and industrial parks there. This center will probably be given the status of a special economic zone,” Amelin said.

It was reported earlier that the Defense Ministry’s Dobrynskoye airfield outside of Vladimir could become part of the Moscow air hub following reconstruction. The airfield is currently operated by the Emergency Situations Ministry’s air rescue center. It is located on 296 hectares of land with 22 properties and an unpaved 2.5 km runway.
