On Dec. 3, first time business owner Katarzyna Dudek opened her craft shop Manufaktura, in her close-knit hometown of Trzebiatow, in northwest Poland near the German border. After raising 2 children and surviving colon cancer, Dudek was looking for meaningful work that would inspire her and others. She had spent time selling her own creations at craft fairs, and decided she enjoyed seeing people's pleasure in finding something unique they could call their own. So on a chilly morning this week, with the help of European Union subsidies and Poland’s strong small business culture, Dudek opened her creative palace.
