You're reading: More Black Sea Fleet bases to be built in southern Russia

Despite the Russian-Ukrainian lease extension for the Black Sea Fleet (BSF) in Sevastopol, the construction of BSF naval bases in Russia will continue and will be completed in due time, Mikhail Nenashev of the State Duma defense committee said.

"The State Duma defense committee recently discussed the construction of naval bases in Novorossiisk and other southern Russian towns in the Krasnodar Territory and the Rostov region. The budget funding will continue and these bases will be built in due time," he said in Moscow during a live video link-up between Moscow and Kyiv on Friday.

"We are not going to have just one base for the Black Sea Fleet, because all military laws and strategies require the Fleet to have several fundamental bases both for permanent deployment and in the event of military operations," he said.
