Villa Gernetto, Italy, April 26 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on April 26 that he had invited his Italian counterpart, Silvio Berlusconi, to attend planned celebrations in Moscow on May 9 of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
"I have confirmed an invitation to the prime minister from the government of the Russian Federation and from the Russian president, Mr. [Dmitry] Medvedev, to come to Moscow on May 9 for celebrations of the defeat of Nazism in World War II," Putin said after talks with Berlusconi.
The upcoming 65th anniversary of the victory is "a great event both worldwide and in Europe," the Russian premier said.
"We hope to see the prime minister at those celebrations in Moscow," he said.
