You're reading: Russian banking sector profits shrink two-thirds to 192 bln rubles in 2015

MOSCOW. Jan 25 (Interfax) - Russian banks made 192 billion rubles in profit last year, down roughly two-thirds from 589 billion rubles in 2014, the Central Bank said in a statement.

Profit fell mainly due to loan loss provisions, which grew 33.4% or by 1.4 trillion rubles in 2015. These provisions rose 42.2% or by 1.2 trillion rubles in 2014.

The banking sector incurred losses of 73 billion rubles in December 2015 as provisions grew by 232 billion rubles.

Central Bank First Deputy Governor Alexei Simanovsky has said banking sector profit might be around 200 billion rubles in 2016.
