Russian acting Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov on Monday, May 7, signed an ordinance on the resignation of the Cabinet to the newly elected president, the government press service report.
Pursuant to Article 116 of the constitution the Cabinet hands its resignation to the newly elected president. This applies to the prime minister, his deputies and federal ministers who belong to the Cabinet. The heads of federal agencies, services and state committees are not Cabinet members and therefore retain their posts.
After resignation the government at instructions of the president continues to perform its duties until the formation of the new Cabinet in line with Article 117 of the Constitution.
There are seven vice premiers, including two first vice premiers, and 18 federal ministers on the outgoing Cabinet.
