MOSCOW, Jan 15 (Reuters) - A senior Russian police officer has been detained on suspicion of killing the driver of a snow plough that dented his car, prosecutors said on Friday.
The driver of the snow plough bled to death after being shot in the knee with a rubber bullet during an argument over the crash in Moscow last month, the General Prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
The 39-year-old officer, a lieutenant-colonel, was detained after investigators discovered parts of the gas pistol that was used, which was registered in his name.
A series of scandals in recent months has undermined trust in Russia’s police, which has come under scrutiny after growing evidence of malpractice and corruption.
A police major went on a shooting spree in a Moscow supermarket in April, killing two people. In November, three drunken Moscow policemen were detained for beating a man to death.
