Former Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin died on Wednesday, state news agency RIA reported.
Chernomyrdin was Prime Minister of Russia from 1992 to 1998. From 2001 to 2009, he was Russia’s ambassador to Ukraine. After that, he was designated as a presidential adviser
According to RIA Novosti, Chernomyrdin died at 4 a.m. of unknown causes. The 72-year old politician had been experiencing health problems lately, the news agency noted.
The state Itar-Tass news agency said Chernomyrdin on Nov. 3 was scheduled to return to Russia after being treated abroad, but Russia’s Interfax agency reported that he died at home.
