Tallinn, April 22 (Interfax) - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she is confident that the United States will be given access to the airbase at the Manas airport in Bishkek under the new leadership.
The Kyrgyz leadership has assured the United States that the U.S. will be given the use of the Manas airbase, she said. This issue was also discussed with Russia. The American side does not see problems obstructing access to the airbase, Clinton said.
Meanwhile, Party of Regions deputy Vadym Kolesnichenko is positive that the parliament will ratify the deal, which extends the fleet in Ukraine until 2042.
"Certainly, the agreement will be ratified, because the parliament has much more wise people than those who care for nothing but themselves. It will be ratified despite the whining and sniffling of the people who had been ruining the future of Ukraine and its defense sector," he told Interfax on Thursday.
Asked how soon the ratification may take place, he said everything depends on President Viktor Yanukovych who is due to submit the draft to the parliament.
