GENEVA - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are meeting on August 26 in a bid to complete a deal on increased cooperation in Syria that officials hope could help create the calm necessary for talks on a political transition.
The former Cold War foes have been trying to forge a way to work together over the past few months in an effort complicated by ground developments since the powers met last in July, including from fighting around Aleppo and Turkey’s recently launched ground campaign in Syria.
