Brussels - The first meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Council will take place in Brussels on Monday, Dec. 15, as part of a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.

“On Dec. 15, we will launch a key mechanism of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the EU, a mechanism that will clearly indicate that our cooperation will develop on the principles of political association and economic integration. And this mechanism will be called the EU-Ukraine Association Council,” Ukraine’s Ambassador to the EU Kostiantyn Yeliseyev told Interfax-Ukraine.

He said that Ukraine would be represented at the meeting by Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the EU by High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.

As reported, on Nov. 1, 2014, Ukraine and the EU started the provisional application of some parts of the Association Agreement. At the same time, the provisional application of the agreement’s provisions on a free trade area was postponed until the end of 2015.

Yatsenyuk said in the Verkhovna Rada on Thursday, Dec. 11 that he would meet with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Monday, Dec. 15.
