Ukraine is studying the possibility of participating in the construction of the Trans-Anadolu Pipeline (TANAP) gas pipeline, deputy chief engineer of PJSC Ukrtransgaz Oleg Mikhalevych has said.

“Given the fact that the capacity of the TANAP pipeline can be
doubled, Ukraine is interested in using the capabilities of this
pipeline to transport natural gas to its territory,” reads a statement
by the company.

In addition, Ukraine participates in the elaboration of the issue of
implementing the project of the Adriatic Gas Corridor, which is
initiated by Croatia and supported by Hungary and the European
Commission.

The creation of the gas corridor will allow the gas transportation
systems of Croatia, Hungary and Ukraine to be connected, and increase
the share of natural gas supplied to Ukraine from other sources. At the
same time, the complex of Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities
located at the western borders of the country will allow natural gas
reserves for both the parties of the future corridor and other countries
of Western and Central Europe to be created, the expert said.

According to him, the recipient of gas could be the LNG terminal that
Croatia plans to build on the Island of Krk in the Adriatic Sea.

Previously former Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Eduard
Stavytsky announced the willingness to participate in the TANAP pipeline
project.

The TANAP gas pipeline is designed to transport Azerbaijani gas from
the Shah Deniz field within the Stage 2 project from the
Georgian-Turkish border to the western borders of Turkey. As expected,
its capacity will be at least 16 billion cubic meters, 10 billion cubic
meters of which will be sent to Europe, 6 billion cubic meters – to the
western regions of Turkey.

Some 20 percent of the TANAP project belongs to Turkey’s BOTAS, 68 percent – SOCAR, and 12 percent – Britain’s BP.
