One segment of Ukraine's Highway M03 runs between Boryspil International Airport and Kyiv, the capital. In many ways, it is a symbol of the benefits of European investment; as the country geared up for the Euro 2012 soccer tournament, which it co-hosted with Poland, the regime of Viktor Yanukovych, who was then President, poured funds into the national roadways. Driving along some, like this one, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in Germany or France, and European Union flags hanging from lampposts heighten the effect.
