A decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to revoke a decree of March 1 on permission to use the Russian army on the territory of Ukraine is sound, but more should be done, UK Ambassador to Ukraine Simon Smith reported.

Russia should do more, he said at a briefing in Kyiv on June 24.

He said that Putin should take other steps that could have a positive
influence on the illegal armed units for them to lay down arms, and
also to bring the militants back to Russia.

As reported, on June 24, Putin asked the Russian Federation Council
to revoke the decree dated March 1 that permits to use the Russian army
on the territory of Ukraine. The Federation Council at its May 25
sitting is to back this decision.
