Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will briefly address the Heads of EU States and Governments at the European Council summit on June 27, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy has reported.

He said that late on Friday their luncheon would focus mainly on the situation in Ukraine.

In an invitation letter to the leaders of 28 EU countries to the
summit, Rompuy said that the summit will start with a ceremony in Ypres
on June 26 to commemorate the start of World War I, one hundred years
ago.

“After the ceremony, we will have an informal dinner together in the
Ypres City Hall. At the dinner, I would like us to have an exchange of
views on priorities and a strategic agenda for the next five years,”
reads an invitation letter from the European Council president.

On Friday, “we will first sign at 9 a.m. the Association Agreements,
including Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas, with Georgia and the
Republic of Moldova as well as the remainder of the Association
Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with Ukraine,” he
wrote in a letter.

According to the letter, later on the participants of the summit will
have the exchange of views with the acting President of the European
Parliament. During the working session afterwards, and in the presence
of the President of the European Central Bank, we will first conclude
our yearly cycle of economic policy coordination, the 2014 European
semester, turning to growth, jobs and competitiveness as well as
regulatory fitness.

“Next, we will agree on the strategic guidelines for legislative and
operational planning for the coming years within the area of freedom,
security and justice. The third major item will be climate and energy,
with a view to preparing the ground for a final package in October. We
will also welcome Lithuania’s entry into the euro area and endorse the
granting of candidate status to Albania,” reads the letter.

Then the guests of the meeting will turn to the decision proposing to
the European Parliament a candidate for President of the Commission.
