Ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych didn't come to the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine (PGO) for investigative and procedural actions, whereas he sent his lawyer Vitaliy Serdiuk in his stead.

The lawyer told journalists that his defendant didn’t come to the PGO because of fear for his life.

He also reminded that Kyiv Court of Appeals on Aug. 13 would consider the appeal of the defense regarding the beginning of the trial in absentia.

As reported, on July 28 the trial in absentee of six former high ranking Ukraine officials, including Yanukovych, started.

The PGO earlier said that it hadn’t received confirmation on Yanukovych’s location either from him or representatives of the Russian Federation.

Yanukovych was put on the wanted list as a suspect in a number of criminal proceedings, due to his hiding from investigators.

PGO summoned Yanukovych on Aug. 11 for conducting investigative and procedural actions.

At the same time, the defense said it would coordinate with the investigative agencies the procedure of interrogating Yanukovych in a teleconference.
