The level of terrorist threat in Ukraine was low during the finals of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has reported.

“According to the conclusions of the Antiterrorist Center of the
Security Service of Ukraine, the level of terrorist threat in Ukraine
remained unchanged at the time of Euro 2012 finals and was identified as
low,” Head of the SBU Antiterrorist Center, SBU First Deputy Head Petro
Shatkovsky, said at a press conference in Kyiv on July 2.

He also said that during the tournament, the Antiterrorist Center had
received 16 anonymous calls about possible threats of terrorist
attacks. He said that those who made these calls had been identified or
would be identified in the near future.

Shatkovsky said that during the tournament, the SBU had neutralized a
number of cyber attacks on the official Web sites of public
authorities.

“In addition, the SBU, along with the Interior Ministry, prevented
massive clashes between radical groups of fans in all Euro 2012 host
cities,” he added.

In addition, according to the SBU first deputy head, “possible
attempts by organizations promoting extremist methods to perform during
Euro 2012 anti-social manifestations in relation to foreign guests of
the championship were blocked.”
