Lviv - About 10,000 Lviv students have joined a strike, protesting the pause in Ukraine's accession to the European Union, also called "Euromaidan," near a monument to Ukrainian writer and poet Taras Shevchenko.
Lectures were cancelled at Lviv universities and students approached the tented camp in columns. The traffic is blocked along Freedom Avenue.
People remain on the square despite rain, snow and high wind.
The organizers read out an appeal to the president demanding that all terms be fulfilled for signing an association membership agreement with the EU.
The students plan to walk to the city administration headquarters to demand Governor Oleh Salo’s resignation.
One more rally in support of Ukraine’s European integration is to begin at 7 p.m. local time.
