The Ministry of the Interior proposes that it add a rocket-propelled item to the list of special equipment used by the police in the protection of public order. Specifically, these are the “Dzhmil”(Bumblebee) and "Dzhmil -M". The items are listed in the draft decision of the government.
Both the “Dzhmil” and “Dzhmil -M” are added to the list of special equipment section were gas hand grenades and bullets with gas grenades are mentioned.
The explanatory note to the resolution fromacting Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko noted that such special devices will “help maintain the tasks of public order, public safety and crime prevention.”
The Dzhmil series is used by military units for radiation, chemical and biological defense of the Land Forces of Russia.
It is designed to destroy enemy personnel located in buildings, destroy auto and light armored vehicles and fortified objects.
The Dzhmil-M has a maximum range 1.7 kilometers (about 1 mile – ed); and can be accurately targeted at up to 800 meters.
The Dzhmil series fires thermobaric and incendiary ammunition, as well as smoke charges creating an impenetrable veil, and thus blinding the enemy.
