Brussels – The European Commission has said that domestic production and gas stocks in underground storage facilities cover Ukraine's needs by 50-70 percent.

“Imports from the EU will help to partially cover the shortage of gas under the optimistic scenario presented by Ukraine,” reads a communiqué presented by the European Commission on Thursday, Oct. 16 for the European parliament and the EU Council on the readiness of the EU to the possible stoppage of gas supplies from Russia.

According to the document, the optimistic scenario foresees that Ukraine will be able to receive gas using reserve supplies from Slovakia, Hungary and Poland and thanks to the reduction of gas consumption on heating and by industry.
