You're reading: Kobolev says gas shipment by Gazprom to self-proclaimed republics violates contract – Naftogaz head

The supply by Russia's Gazprom of natural gas to the territories temporarily not controlled by the Ukrainian government, where Naftogaz Ukrainy (NAK) cannot take in and control gas supplies, run counter to the bilateral contract between the two companies, says Naftogaz chief executive Andriy Kobolev.

“Such actions are unacceptable and fully contradict the spirit and letter of the existing contract,” he told a press conference in Kyiv on Feb. 19.

The contract clearly sets out the procedure for gas handover on the border and the direction of gas supplies is regulated by separate orders submitted by the Ukrainian gas monopoly, he said.

Naftogaz will not pay Gazprom’s bills for gas supplies to the military operation zone, which cannot be confirmed under the current contract, Kobolev said.

“We believe such a bill will contradict the contract,” the NAK chief said.

Despite Gazprom’s announcement to supply gas to the military operation zone, pressure on the entry to the Ukrainian gas transit system on the border with Russia on the existing routes remained unchanged, he also said.
