Ukrtransgaz, the operator of Ukraine's gas transport system, has granted European Commission monitors access to the facilities of the Ukrainian gas transport system, including gas metering stations, NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy's press service has said.

The European experts will monitor natural gas shipments via Ukraine.

“In addition to providing the monitoring mission with physical access to the facilities of Ukraine’s gas transport system, Ukrtransgaz has launched the daily sharing of data from applications for the transportation of Russian gas to European consumers, actual volumes of Russian gas arrivals in Ukraine and actual volumes of gas shipments both to the EU and Ukraine,” the company said.

A decision to create the information system was made at a working meeting of Naftogaz and Ukrtransgaz with representatives of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) on Jan. 30, in pursuance of previous agreements with the European Commission. The daily sharing of data started on Feb. 2.

To create a gas monitoring system in Ukraine, the European Commission, jointly with ENTSOG and Ukrtransgaz, has been introducing a model for the constant monitoring of data on gas volumes that come in and out of Ukraine and the amount of gas shipments to European consumers.

Ukraine is the first non-EU member country that joined ENTSOG’s transparency platform of daily transmission system operations. Ukrtransgaz became its observer on Oct. 24, 2013.
