ST. PETERSBURG - Ukraine definitely lacks time to pump necessary amounts of natural gas into its storage facilities by winter, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said.

“In the time remaining before the start of the period of taking gas from underground stores, Ukraine will not be able to pump necessary volumes of gas into its underground storage facilities, so as to have at least 18, or better still, 20 billion cubic meters of gas there. Of course, everyone is aware that it won’t happen, of course it is already an accomplished fact,” Miller told reporters on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg international gas forum on Oct. 7.

“The forecast is for a cold winter,” “and the risks of problems arising in case of suddenly cold temperatures remain,” Miller said.

“The problem of gas transit shipments via Ukraine is not a question for us, gas transit via Ukraine is provided by Naftogaz Ukrainy,” he said.
