High-quality natural gas with an average calorific content of 8,090 to 8,316 kcal/cubic meter was used by Ukrainian consumers in January 2015, the press service of PJSC Ukrtransgaz has said.

According to its data, the minimum level of calorific content established by Ukrainian standards is 7,600 kcal per cubic meter.

For instance, in October 2014 the maximum calorific content of gas in the country’s regions was 8,225 kcal/cubic meter.

Ukrtransgaz noted that gas calorific content indicates the amount of heat from the combustion of one cubic meters of fuel measured in calories.

According to the press service, the European Union successfully uses the practice of signing contracts for the sale and purchase of natural gas at prices that are tied to the index of fuel value and are measured in EUR per MWh. This allows buyers to more accurately predict their gas needs and pay a fairer price for resources.

According to contracts signed by Naftogaz Ukrainy with European companies, the price of natural gas is linked to its energy value (measured in MWh), which corresponds to the standards of European gas contracts EFET.
