Pandemonium, and lots of cold beer, should be on tap.

DISCO MUSIC
C.C. Catch.

Protege of Modern Talking singer Dieter Bohlen, German disco star C.C. Catch recorded big hits like “I Can Lose My Heart Tonight” in the 80s before disappearing from the scene for almost 10 years, only to reenter the pop market in 1998 with remixes of her old songs. She’ll mix them up with some newly recorded tunes to get the audience at Freedom dancing to good old danceable disco.
FreeDom (134 Frunze, 468-4068). 12 midnight.

SPECIAL EVENT
Evening of Korean Music and Dance.

The last time anyone in Kyiv saw a Korean music and dance spectacle was during the opening ceremonies for the Seoul Olympics, back in 1988. This weekend the Korean Embassy in Ukraine, the Korean Ministry of Tourism and the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts will present an evening of choral music and traditional drumming and instrumental music. Timed to coincide with the Kyiv Days celebrations, the evening offers a vibrant shot of Korean culture.
Operetta Theater (53/3 Chervonoarmiyska). 7 p.m.
For more information, contact the Embassy of Korea at 246-3759/61.
DJ MUSIC
Unlimited Disco Pride Party.

Not everyone’s proud of disco these days, but with headliners U-RA! and Fun2Mass, this party could convince a few skeptics that the music lives forever. Entrance to this party, on the Dnipro’s banks, covers most everything you could want at the bar, not to mention a night of dancing in the warm (we’re crossing our fingers) summer air. A great way to start the summer.
Elbrus barge, “Green” slip (Hydropark, 30 m to the left of the bridge opposite Sun City).

CLUB CONCERT
A-Studio.

These Russian rockers, fronted by the comely Polina Griffiths (who, incidentally, got married this past February), will return to Kyiv as part of Shambhala’s “For the Love of the City” party. Their catchy pop tunes don’t sound very Russian; in fact, they sound like R.E.M. and Pulp, among others. Also featured will be local acts DJ Duke and MC Vanya Khorosh.
Shambhala (24 Peremohy Prospect, 238-7176). 11 p.m.
Tickets Hr 60 for men, Hr 40 for women.
Sunday 30
ROAD RACE
12th Run Under the Chestnuts.
This annual road race brings out thousands to run under the chestnuts along Khreshchatyk and adjacent streets, and all profits will go to benefit the Ministry of Health’s Pediatric Cardiology and Heart Surgery units. Registration will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m., with the race set to begin at the ripe hour of 10. Come out for fun, sun, exercise and the chance to do some good.
Maidan Nezalezhnosti. 10 a.m. Entry fee Hr 20 for Ukrainians, Hr 50 for foreigners.
SOCCER
Ukrainian League Cup Final.

So Dynamo didn’t make it this far (though they’re still going to end up with the League title), but that doesn’t mean this won’t be a great game. Two of the country’s top teams, Shakhtar and Dnipro, will battle it out for the league cup, which two years ago went to Shakhtar in a stunning 3-2 win over the hometown favorites. Lots of pride is at stake in this game, which will likely be televised nationwide. Bad blood between these teams exists already, and the local papers have been throwing gasoline on the fire.
Olympic Stadium (55 Chervonoarmiyska). 5 p.m.
Tickets Hr 5 to Hr 50.
