CLUB ANNIVERSARY: Art Club 44.
Beginning on Friday and running 44 hours until Sunday, restaurateur Eric Aigner’s flagship live jazz/rock hangout Art Club 44 celebrates three years of serving up Kyiv’s best live music week in, week out. Not only does the party last for 44 hours, but it will feature 44 bands, including: Speeding Lisa (Friday), Numer 482 and Vzroslye Deti (Grownup Kids) and Haydamaky (Saturday), and VV and Properganja (Sunday).

BALLET: “Rasputin.”
With his mesmerizing gaze and legendary appetite for power, the charismatic priest Rasputin provides the inspiration for this performance, starring Farukh Ruzimatov and the Russian National Ballet Theater. Ruzimatov, a phenom, should give an exciting performance. Expect unusual choreography and an original score, along with wonderful costumes by Ukrainian designer Anna Ipateva. Tickets may have sold out for the two performances. Be prepared to talk to scalpers.

BASKETBALL: BC Kyiv vs. Hapoel Galil Elyon (Israel).
This is the third big international contest of the year for the Green and Gold in FIBA Euroleague action. A week after squaring off against Fenerbahce of Turkey, the BC Kyiv Fab Five will take on Israel’s Hapoel, one of the league’s strongest teams last year. Already, 6’11” Greek center Giannis Giannoulis is proving an all-star talent and worth the price of admission (he gets good help from American backcourt imports Mark Anthony Norris and LaMarr Greer).
