SOCCER: World Cup Qualifier – Greece vs. Ukraine.

AP

The way Ukraine’s national soccer team plays often compels fans to tear their hair out: They never seem to be able to suck it up for the big games. Well, on the road to the 2006 World Cup all the games are big, and this first test at home against Greece – winners of the European Championship this summer – will be one of Ukraine’s biggest. Security will be tight, and so will the match. Don’t miss out.

CLASSICAL MUSIC: “Vladimir Kraynev Invites.”

http://pigeond.net/wallpaper

The Vladimir Krayney Invites festival, now into its seventh year, offers classical music aficionados a chance to hear some great pianists from this part of the world. Among the performers this year will be German Klaus Schittiken and his orchestra and Piotr Paleczny and his quartet from Poland. The ticket prices for something this good are a steal.

National Philharmonic (2 Volodymyrskiy Uzviz, 228-1697).

7 p.m. Tickets Hr 5 to Hr 30.

MOVIE SCREENING: David Lynch’s “Lost Highway.”

http://nothing.nin.net

For David Lynch fans this is an opportunity they won’t want to miss – a screening of perhaps his best film. “Lost Highway” is a bad trip that asks far more questions than it answers. It’s dreamy, schizophrenic, surreal and never linear; there’s no following the plot to any logical conclusion – it’s a signature Lynch piece of cinematic art. The plot’s not the point anyway. We’re just glad someone in this town has the balls and taste to play this film.

Store 205 (8 Kovpaka, 269-3249).

10 p.m. Free admission.
