The Best Of team just can’t get enough.
All that socializing in the name of providing Post readers with the most insightful and latest entertainment and consumer information is actually a whole lot of fun. To be honest, all that partying can also be highly addictive.
Those long weekends that begin on Wednesday nights and stretch until Sunday evening, simply aren’t enough any longer.
Lately we’ve been getting itchy feet by Monday afternoon. By Tuesday, we are ready to hit the town again. Kyiv may not have the most developed nightlife on the planet, but the Best Of team is nothing if not resourceful and knows a thing or two about getting rowdy on a hot summer Tuesday night.
One of the cheapest and most accessible ways is to join the throngs who perambulate up and down Khreshchatyk every night of the week. On the plus side, there’s a variety of people to talk to and plenty of drinks on hand. On the downside there’s absolutely no crowd control, the police tend to crack down when the rowdiness reaches a certain pitch, and even the culturally sensitive Best Of team can listen to Kino cover songs only so many times.
Another option is the river docks in Podil and the cruise boats that ply the Dnipro. Cheap and cheerful, these floating Rusky-popsa discos have been known to be rowdy by 9 a.m. – just like the Best Of team likes ‘em. But the trip lasts a mere 90 minutes, which is not nearly long enough to match the Best Of stamina.
Then there is 111, that revolving vortex of lounge decadence. Like a great grinning black hole, it often suck-us in at the least expected times and keep-us idly spinning for hours. But there’s only so much bartender dancing we can witness before we simply must get out of there.
The fact is that Tuesday is not exactly a classy day of the week. It calls for getting down and dirty, rubbing shoulders with the masses, being entertained and having access to plenty of cheap food and drinks. Are you thinking what we’re thinking? Yes, that’s right. Hydropark.
Nowhere else in the capital can you find a rowdier bunch of people so early in the week at so early an hour.
People at Hydropark are rowdy on the beach, they’re rowdy in the shashlyk huts, they’re rowdy at the karaoke, they’re rowdy on the patio-lantern-lit dance floors, they’re rowdy in the rooftop Hydrozona disco and they’re especially rowdy in the arcades and mini-casinos.
Some people say the park is best avoided on weekend nights because of the accumulation of smalltime gangster types. They may have a point. But the Best Of team fears no one, and on a typical Tuesday it’s just good not-so-clean fun at Hydropark.
