Ukraine Palace once again welcomes this illustrious Cape Verde native to sing her soothing Portuguese songs of love and life on June 14... Don't forget the Mumiy Troll concert at the International Center for Culture and Arts on June 15... Ukraine's U-13 baseball championships go this weekend at Pushcha Vodytsya starting June 10.

that some of us are. Given that Pedro Martinez won’t square off against Mike Mussina in Kyiv anytime soon, we’ll have to make do with cool events like this: tots named Ivan and Stopya spitting in the dust and turning double plays, or trying to. Bring your own beer, peanuts, sunscreen and cracker jacks, and learn a few Ukrainian swear words to yell at the ump.

Pushcha Vodytsya (ZNZ #104, 28 Lesna).

Games begin at 3 p.m., except on Sunday (10 a.m.) Free admission.

EXHIBITION

Aldo Rossi.

An exhibition devoted to the late, great postmodern Italian architect and architectural theorist, who died in a car crash in 1997. Aldo Rossi’s known for works that skirt the line between the magisterial and the playful: La Fenice opera house and the Teatro del Mondo in Venice are his, as is Parma’s famous Centro Torre Commercial Center and the Pocono Pines House in Pennsylvania, that seminal example of contemporary residential building. He won the Pritzker Prize in 1990, and architecture doyenne Ada Louise Huxtable called him “a poet who happens to be an architect.” He never built anything in Kyiv, so this is the next best thing. Be sure to wear black.

ITIS gallery (54/1 Tarasa Shevchenka, 234-5050). Through June 15.

SOCCER

Euro-2004 Championships.

Nothing stirs men’s hearts quite like a good game of soccer between rival nations like France and England. It gives them an excuse to plead temporary insanity with their wives and girlfriends when they forget to take out the trash, walk the dog, or show up for the wedding. Besides, imagine missing Michael Owen putting a crackling goal past Fabien Barthez in extra time to give England’s Rose a win over Les Tricolores. Now that’s unforgivable.

Opening match features hosts Portugal vs. Greece (kicks off at 7 p.m.) Following match features Spain vs. Russia (9:45 p.m.) Sunday matches include Switzerland vs. Croatia (7 p.m.) and France vs. England (9:45 p.m.)

See p. 27B in the Sports section for more details.

ELECTRONICA

Cyberjazz.

This duo, combining a turntablist playing a funky mix of house, break-beat and other styles and a live saxophone, really heat things up and come well-recommended for their ability to kick any party up a few notches. They’ll play this weekend at new club Saxon, which is well off the beaten path in this city – kinda like their music.

Saxon (4 Trutenka, 257-4070). 9 p.m. Tickets Hr 30 for men, Hr 20 for women; 50% off with flyer.

BIG CONCERT

Cesaria Evora.

The Portuguese singing songstress from Cape Verde came to Kyiv last year for a one-night-only performance and apparently liked her trip to the Ukrainian capital so much that she’ll return for another show, again at Ukraine Palace, which admittedly sucks for anyone wishing her to appear in a more intimate, jazzier, smokier venue. But at least she’s here. Her 2003 album “Voz d’Amor” (Voice of Love) is her ninth, but she’s best known for “Sao Vicente di Longe” (2001) and “Cafe Atlantica” (1999). If you miss her in Kyiv, check her out in Odessa on June 16.

Ukraine Palace (103 Chervonoarmiyska, 246-2476). 7 p.m. Please call for ticket information.

KLEZMER MUSIC

The Cracow Klezmer Band.

The Cracow Klezmer Band, one of Poland’s coolest acts, hits town. Formed in 1997 by young accordionist and composer Jaroslaw Bester, the group has a good reputation on the avant garde music scene. Their top-level musicianship and reputation as a great live act are what will draw us to this show, and what will keep us there is the music: that funky, pungent art form known as klezmer, informed here with a forward-looking spirit. This concert is another highlight of the Year of Poland in Ukraine celebration.

Molody Theatre (17 Prorizna, 228-7392).

7 p.m. Free admission.
