You're reading: Doctor/Musician Plays Benefit Show

Kyiv dermatologist Dr. Olha Bohomolets - an accomplished classical guitarist, singer and doctor - wants to help the children she treats by playing a benefit concert at Ukrainian Artists' House on Nov. 15.

Children’s charities often focus on life threatening diseases such as cancer and cystic fibrosis – but others, just as worthy, give hope to kids with afflictions
that are lifealtering, if not fatal.Enter Ukrainian dermatologist, jazz guitarist and singer Olha Bohomolets.

Bohomolets has organized a children’s benefit concert on Nov. 15 at Ukrainian House on European Square to raise funds for a variety of dermatological and vascular diseases and conditions – the kind of things that can scar a child, literally and figuratively, for life. The same hands that help heal these children will pluck classical guitar; Bohomolets will sing, too.

The concert program will include some of the works Bohomolets has performed at festivals in Ukraine and abroad. She’s played the Oberig all-Ukrainian songwriters’ festival, the international Sopot festival and the White Sails festival. Though Bohomolets mostly concentrates on classical guitar music by Ukrainian and Russian composers, she also composes herself. You can hear her play and sing on her debut CD “Kairos – Time, Full of Meaning.”

So what this concert promises is great music, but also to help improve the lives of a few children. As a doctor, Bohomolets has devoted the last 10 years of her life to operating her own private dermatological institute, the Dr. Bohomolets Institute of Dermacosmetology. She knows what she’s doing. A good concert for a good cause. Why not be there?
