Find out how to mail a letter or parcel abroad

, postcard or a gift parcel to your friends or relatives abroad, you can do so through Ukrainian postal service Ukrposhta.

If you want your mail to reach its destination as quick as possible, the best bet is to go to the central post office at Maidan Nezalezhnosti (22 Khreschatyk, 279-9192, www.ukrposhta.com), which is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends and holidays. If you’d rather go to the post office closest to where you live, just call Ukrposhta’s info line (065) to find out the nearest location.

Ukrposhta offers land and airmail options for postcards, packages, and regular mail, and prices differ accordingly. To send a package to Western Europe, Ukrposhta charges a flat rate of Hr 66.64 per package plus Hr 17.09 per kg. For the same package going to the US, the flat rate is cheaper – Hr 61.07, but the weight charge is Hr 31.62 per kg. Ukrposhta’s travel time by mail is 11 days to the US; nine to 14 days to Canada; three to 12 to the UK; and four to nine to France. DHL Worldwide Express (1 Chervonoarmiyska, 490 2600, www.dhl.com.ua) guarantees express package delivery to the destination in one to three days. At Federal Express (44 Kikvidze, 495-2020, www.fedex.com) and UPS (20 Mechnikova, 280-0000, www.ups.com), prices go up depending on weight and the type of postal insurance.
