You're reading: La Giocande

The National Opera stages one-hit operatic wonder Amilcare Ponchelli's charming "La Giocande," as a good Spanish DJ comes to town, a motorcycle festival hits downtown (with a performance by VV), and the second part of Tarantino's "Kill Bil" bloodies up local theaters

The production sets the opera in the republican Venice of the late 17th century, during the pre-Lenten carnival period. It’s a wild, raucous affair.

National Opera Theater (50 Volodymyrska, 229-1169). 7 p.m.

MOVIE PREMIERE

“Kill Bill, Vol 2.”

Starring Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Daryl Hannah, Michael Madsen and Michael Parks.

In Quentin Tarantino’s latest, Uma Thurman returns as the Bride, out for revenge against her former comrades in the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, who killed everyone else at her wedding and left her for dead. On the death list this time around are Daryl Hannah, Michael Madsen, and David Carradine, who plays the Bill of the title – Thurman’s boss, teacher, and lover. Some call this bloody homage to old martial-arts flicks cynical trash, others hipster genius, but either way, a lot of people are going to go to see it.

Various theaters and showtimes. See Page 36C for more information.
