You're reading: Sly Stallone’s star power comes to Kyiv

Whether because of fires in Russia or sumptuous fees, three Hollywood actors presented their new action thriller “The Expendables” in Kyiv, not in Moscow, on Aug. 7.

Sylvester Stallone, 64, Dolph Lundgren, 52 and Jason Statham, 37, appeared in good humor and great shape at the Premier Palace hotel.

Star-struck journalists expressed admiration, instead of asking questions.

Their numbers rivaled coverage for presidential visits. Later the trio were spotted in Ukraina movie theater.

The film itself tells the story of mercenaries invading a corrupt island somewhere in Latin America. Stallone disappointed by not kissing the girl at the end of the film, but at the press conference joked that he was too old for such a scene.

More famous actors appeared in the film in all sorts of bit parts, lending more humor than substance to the plot. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis cracked a few jokes in cameo roles.

But even if the same lineup simply sold ice cream, people would still enjoy watching these guys. Businessman Oleksandr Onyschenko brought the trio to Kyiv. A partygoer, he breeds horses and then splurges on fashion, sports and movies.
