President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has said his country's partner relationship with NATO make it possible for Ukraine to receive defensive weapons.

“We reached the [level] of exchanging information. We’re partners, [and they] give us the possibility to receive defensive weaponry, not for offensives, but defense ones, such as drones, electronic equipment. This is non-lethal weaponry, but it reinforces our defensive capacities,” Poroshenko said at a joint briefing with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg after a National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine meeting in Kyiv on Sept. 22.

Poroshenko said that since Russia’s aggression started 17 months ago, Ukraine has made sure that it has been a reliable partner for NATO.

“A reliable partner, a responsible partner from the point of view of implementation of the Minsk agreements, and from the point of view of the protection of our country,” he said.

Poroshenko described the documents signed between Ukraine and NATO on Tuesday as unique, which give the country the opportunity for practical cooperation which will help Ukraine build up its defense.

“This is not just our problem, this is a regional, continental war, which threatens peace and stability in the whole world,” he said.
