The reformed Armed Forces of Ukraine will guarantee the security of the entire European continent, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said.
“No doubt, the reformed security sector of Ukraine on the basis of NATO standards, will become the important factor not only for national security in this country, but [will become] the guarantor of strengthened EU security and EU stability,” Poroshenko said at an extended meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine in Kyiv on Sept. 22.
“Today, only the common security space and collective guarantees can protect Ukraine from external invasions and painful revanchist-imperial ambitions by irresponsive international players,” Poroshenko said.
“Ukraine is the easternmost outpost of Euro-Atlantic civilization and Ukraine now defends not only its sovereignty, but also fights for freedom and democracy in the region and in the world,” Poroshenko said.
