Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and European Council President Donald Tusk discussed the situation in Donbas in Paris and agreed that the sanctions against Russia should be prolonged until the Minsk agreements are fully implemented.
“Petro Poroshenko and Donald Tusk have agreed that the sanctions against Russia should be prolonged until Russia fully fulfils its obligations under the Minsk agreements,” the Ukrainian presidential press service reported.
“The meeting participants also discussed the development of the situation in Syria and agreed that Russia’s involvement creates more problems than it helps to resolve,” the report says.
Tusk said all EU countries value very highly their unity in support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Poroshenko, for his part, said that, despite the difficult situation on the frontline, Ukraine is not stopping reforms and is demonstrating real progress.
He also recalled that the free trade zone between Ukraine and the EU will begin working on January 1, 2016, which is expected to strengthen trade relations with the EU and the economic independence of Ukraine.
Additionally, the meeting participants discussed the issue of the visa-free regime. Poroshenko pointed out the importance of this issue to Ukrainians.
The president also invited Tusk to visit Ukraine at any time that is suitable for him.
