You're reading: President signs decree on preparations for celebration of Ukraine’s Independence Day

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on preparations for the celebration of the 23rd anniversary of Ukraine's independence.

According to a decree posted on presidential website, the president
ordered that within ten days, the Cabinet of Ministers create an
organizing committee to prepare for the celebration of Independence Day;
and approve and ensure the realization of a plan of events in a number
of cities and populated areas.

According to the decree, the state flag of Ukraine will be flown on
August 23, 2014 in Kyiv and other populated areas, flower-laying
ceremonies and solemn events will be held in Kyiv with the participation
of Ukraine’s leadership. In addition, military parades, conferences,
roundtables and exhibitions will be held in Kyiv and Odesa on the
Independence Day.

Head of state also ordered the government to organize the events to
honor the memory of heroes of the Heavenly Hundred and people defending
Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Defense Ministry and Kyiv city and regional state administrations are to organize fireworks displays as well.
