Presidential candidate, incumbent Member of Parliament Sergiy Tigipko says he will recognize the outcome of the presidential elections despite the fact he fell short of many votes in Ukraine's southeast due to instability, but he won't cooperate with new authorities.
“I will recognize this, as I believe that Ukraine needs a legitimate
president,” he said at a briefing at his election headquarters.
He forecasts that the fact of the elections could have a positive impact on the situation the country.
Yet, he claimed many of his voters were unable to vote.
“It’s evident today that Luhansk and Donetsk virtually did not vote,
and the voter turnout in Ukraine’s south is very low,” he said.
Asked about his next steps, Tigipko said he wasn’t going to seek
high-ranking positions. According to him, at least two conditions are
needed to make the country united: to stop using force and start
fighting corruption.
“I think if these 2 problems are not resolved, then it’s impractical to go to government or any other agency,” Tigipko said.
He announced he would start building the Strong Ukraine party, which
will address the real problems of Ukraine’s southeastern regions.
The party will convene for its first congress in 1-1.5 months, Tigipko said.
