You're reading: Kyiv declines comment on allegation that Ukrainian pilot responsible for MH17 crash

The Ukrainian Security Service is refusing to comment on a statement by the Russian Investigative Committee that it has obtained proof of a Ukrainian Su-25 attack plane's role in downing the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 which crashed near Donetsk, viewing this information as falsified.

“This is yet another fake, and we are not going to comment on it,” the Ukrainian Security Service told Interfax on Dec. 24.

Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin had told Interfax earlier on Wednesday that Russian investigators had obtained proof of a Ukrainian Air Force Su-25 attack plane’s role in the Boeing’s crash in eastern Ukraine on July 17.

The Investigative Committee said it had received this testimony from a Ukrainian serviceman who had deserted from the Ukrainian armed forces earlier. The man claimed that a Ukrainian Air Force Su-25 armed with air-to-air missiles had taken off from a military airfield shortly before the MH17 crash and returned to the base without these missiles.
